MTN appoints top executives to boost management team

The MTN Group is pleased to announce the appointments of Mr Tim Lowry, Mr Khumo Shuenyane and Ms Nozipho January-Bardill.

Tim Lowry has been appointed vice-president for the MTN Group’s Southern and East Africa region and will also be the Managing Director of MTN South Africa from 1 June 2007. He has over 30 years’ experience in the global telecommunications industry.

Most recently, he was France Telecom’s vice-president for Western Europe responsible for Holland, Switzerland and Belgium. Prior to that, Lowry served as Orange/France Telecom’s vice-president for Mergers & Acquisitions. He spent 10 years with Cable & Wireless in Africa, the Middle East, Australia and Europe.

Khumo Shuenyane will be the MTN Group Executive: Mergers & Acquisitions with effect from 1 June 2007. He is currently the head of Direct Investments and a member of the Executive Committee of Investec’s South African operations.

, Previously, Shuenyane was a member of Investec’s Corporate Finance division for eight years where he was responsible for initiating and executing advisory mandates in a range of corporate finance areas including M&A, privatisations, restructurings, capital raising and black economic empowerment transactions.

, Nozipho January-Bardill was appointed MTN Group Executive: Corporate Affairs and MTN Group Spokesperson from 2 May 2007. She joins the Group from the Department of Foreign Affairs where she was the Deputy Director-General and Head of Human Resources and the Foreign Service Institute. She is South Africa’s former Ambassador to Switzerland, where she served from 2001 to 2005.

, January-Bardill has served on the Boards of FirstRand Insurance (Momentum) and Southern Life Insurance Companies, among a number of other boards and commissions.
